In this series, I am repurposing old framed print artwork along with other recycled materials. Here’s where the fun begins. I render a face onto the repurposed materials, then I figure out who it is. This is a sometimes quick, sometimes not so quick step. Once I’ve decided who the subject is, I flesh out the story with the remaining work to be done. I’m not really concerned about likenesses; I’m looking more for the attitude, the essence of the person. I’m also very interested in the use of the materials. Different objects and materials may be chosen for their color, surface, and what they represent or suggest by their origin. I’m having a good time discovering all the new stories these characters have brought to me through these portraits.
